Our client is a global branding and digital innovation consultancy that partners with their clients on a range of large scale digital, brand and product related projects. They are seeking a Director of Business Development who will be at the forefront of setting the business development strategy and mobilizing internal resources to develop pitch proposals and presentations for their San Francisco office.


  • Target new prospects a range of prioritized sectors and categories with a focus on identifying clients with significant long-term revenue potential
  • Create a short, medium and long-term pipeline of potential clients with the right profile
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to design the optimum strategy for being front of mind for new business target audiences
  • Ensure that new business is leveraging marketing activities and assets effectively to maximize reach and conversion

Specifically, he or she will be expected to:

  • Work with the Head of New Business to set the overall business development strategy and initiate the pursuit of selected companies
  • Maintain responsibility for several ‘vertical categories’ to develop a knowledge base and broad networks of relationships in key industry segments
  • Survey the market and identify opportunities across all practice areas (brand strategy, expression, innovation)
  • Carry out outreach programs, generate meetings/conference calls and follow up accordingly
  • Develop regular ‘keep in touch’ campaigns to establish ongoing dialogue
  • Scan press to catch potential opportunities early on
  • Contribute to the coordination of new business pitches and proposals
  • Attend conferences and trigger initial discussions with identified decision makers

New Business Development and Outreach

  • Experienced business developer with a solid track record in business development roles in the design, digital and innovation industries
  • Proven track record of establishing and quickly building new client relationships in the brand, marketing, or innovation consulting arena
  • Natural networker with a deep rolodex of senior contacts to bring to the table from day one
  • Deep relationships in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley business community as evidenced by involvement in professional networking associations, attendance at key events and conferences, etc.
  • Strategic and analytic thinker with the ability to quickly assess and survey a broad range of new opportunities and develop a prioritized and rational action plan
  • An ability to understand clients’ biggest business and marketing issues
  • High degree of strategic and commercial acumen with an ability to conduct credible senior-level conversations with target prospects
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated capability as evidenced by some involvement (professional or personal) in launching or growing new venture, either in an operational or advisory role
